Reno Police Officers Exchange Gunfire With Shooter Outside a Casino

Reno, Nevada — On July 28, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., the Reno Police Department along with multiple partnering agencies responded to the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, located at 2500 East Second Street in Reno on the report of an active shooter. Reno Police officers arrived on scene within two and a half minutes and immediately located the suspect in the northwest parking lot of the property. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect immediately fired at the officers, striking a patrol vehicle. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect numerous times, stopping the threat. The suspect was then taken into custody, given first aid, and transported to the hospital. During the engagement, the suspect was armed with a 9mm Glock handgun and shot at officers, striking a patrol vehicle four times. Two bullets struck the top portion of the windshield, one in the right front passenger side tire, causing it to deflate.

The other bullet struck the front right portion of the bumper. The hole in the center of the patrol car’s windshield was from an officer returning fire. At the same time the suspect was being taken into custody, additional officers from the Reno Police Department, personnel from the Grand Sierra Resort provided immediate medical attention to several victims. The Reno Fire Department (RFD) and the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) quickly arrived on scene providing additional medical aid and transported victims to a local hospital. Ultimately, the suspects shot six individuals, tragically taking the lives of three. The Sparks Police Department is the investigating agency for this incident, and the involved officers were placed on administrative leave as per protocol during the ongoing investigation. The Sparks Police Department identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dakota Hawver, who died on July 30, 2025 as a result of his injuries.

  2. Wtf I go here diligently and your telling me none of those rednecks shot his ass before the police. Damn near everyone in reno has a gun 🤦‍♂️🤣

  3. But THE most important thing, with this whole "life in America" scenario, was Mr Hawver's 2nd amendment "rights" were not violated. The victims were simply collateral damage and just got in the way of Mr Hawver's 2nd amendment bullets.

  4. For those of you wondering – there is a CIVILIAN HERO (employee: valet driver) that needs to be recognized as part of this story. His name is Kade Macedo. Local kid who was pulling a car up to the front of the hotel when bullets were flying, helped one of the victims get cover and quite literally saved his life. Kade is a young father and showed unfathomable courage in one of the most intense moments of his life. I honestly can't even imagine how grateful the victims family is for his act of kindness and strength.
