Concord, North Carolina — On Sunday, February 13, 2022, at approximately 5 a.m., Concord police officer Timothy Larson went to the parking lot of a Nissan dealership to investigate a possible auto theft. Officer Larson arrives to find 29-year-old Brandon Combs has the door open, while he was sitting inside a Nissan Frontier truck at the dealership. The DA’s Office said Combs was wearing dark clothing, sitting in the driver’s seat, and had been released from jail about 36 hours prior. They said Larson wasn’t aware Combs had a felony fugitive warrant pending from another state and several felony convictions on his record. Combs says to the officer “Take your gun off,” as Larson walks up with a flashlight and asks what is going on.

Larson then tries to get Combs to step out of the truck and Combs refuses. Larson briefly took cover behind a white van before continuing to yell commands at Combs. Combs runs from the truck towards the police SUV and gets inside. Larson chases after. Larson approaches Combs in the police SUV directly in front but at a distance, with Larson positioning himself to the passenger side of the front of the SUV as he gets closer. Larson fires five shots before calling in “shots fired” on his radio and shooting once more at Combs. Combs was later pulled from the SUV by police and given aid until EMS arrived. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away from his injuries, authorities said. The Concord Police Department and SBI looked into the shooting and questioned Larson about his actions.

Officer Larson was fired in May. According to a notice of dismissal, the officer refused to answer questions following the shooting, and gave misleading or untrue answers in other instances to his superiors and the State Bureau of Investigation, which handled the shooting investigation. In late August, the Cabarrus County District Attorney’s Office announced former officer Timothy Larson would not face any charges in the deadly shooting. Combs’ mother, Virginia Tayara, filed a lawsuit in August 2022 against Larson and the Concord Police Department in federal court, on claims of excessive force, assault and battery, wrongful and intentional death and gross negligence.

  1. Fired? Is a select fire rifle or shotgun not stored in a police cruiser? If I saw someone breaking into my gun safe I'd shoot them in the head five times too

  2. This is why no one applies to be a police officer anymore. You risk your life dealing with these animals and then you get fired and sued. Fired from a Police Department that can care less about your service, and sued by family members of a career felon offender.

  3. I’m sorry, but you can’t shoot an unarmed man just because he’s stealing a car, even a cop car. That’s NUTS!

Do not shoot unless fired upon! 👮🏿

  4. The police was fired and sued for his justified action. Dear fellow Americans, taste your own recipe of having too much 'human right'.. So now, right to steal police car in front of the officer?

  5. Ok people here is the deal, this cop wasn't just dumb enough to leave his vehicle open with the keys in it, he lied when question becuase he knew he looked bad! Most jump to his defence but I highly doubt you would if it was a family of your that died and the cop was lying!!! Maybe you think if anyone tried to run they must be executed but that's what criminals do 90% of the time. If you cant see this crime could have been prevented with taking a life in numerous ways you should never be a cop because you lack the brains and attributes to be one and this people is the big problem. Almost anyone can be a cop these days. Will need to clean up corrupt, inept cops from our country, pay them more but increase the entry qualifications. That singularly would have the biggest effect on lower crime and keeping the good, competent cops safer! I see 3 ways I could have prevented that with a gun and several with one with no loss of life, can anyone name even 1, and want at least 2 or you would make a poor cop!

  6. In my opinion this shooting is justified. Was about to steal a police vehicle, most likely with a rifle in it. And if I was that officer I would have fear of being run over, which is deadly force so deadly force by Larson is justified

  7. You can't shoot someone like that he had no gun and you knew that but you're just gonna say I didn't know he had a gun and he was gonna run me over in my patrol car for one it's not your car it's the counties or the cities and for 2 I don't know why you even shot him with it's pretty pathetic you could let him took off at the car but no you wanted to fire your gun like you guys always wanted but with that I thought I had my tails real oh that's a taser oh I thought I had the pepper square oh excuses excuses you're gonna make

  8. Bwahaha. "Combs mother stated she didnt believe his death to be out of the ordinary until she saw the video"

Being shot by a cop while stealing two vehicles however, was seemingly just another day LOL.

Omg covid petered out too quickly.

  9. Well.. Prepare yourself Concord PD to pay 30 millions Dollars for a Felon that dedicated his life to victimize Citizens…. I don't agree with Cops leaving vehicle running… it's leading to Police shootings…

Clearly there was nothing wrong with the shooting.. With this Police always guilty mentality the DA would change if the shooting wasn't justified

  10. For those asking "Why did the Officer Larson lie?", why do you assume that's true? That's a claim in the notice of dismissal, not a statement of reality. Given the justified shooting, on camera, I'd assume that the department is covering up for making a bad, cowardly decision to fire Officer Larson.
