Houston, Texas — On July 30, 2022 Houston police officers were dispatched to a disturbance call involving an individual in crisis. While en route, officers were informed the individual was a suspect (Bryan Stuart Cornitius, 38) armed with a knife. The officers arrived and were immediately approached by Cornitius, who appeared to be very agitated and was armed with a knife.
The officers gave verbal commands to Cornitius to drop the knife and not approach them, but Cornitius refused to comply and continued to approach officers. The officers backed up to create distance from Cornitius while still giving him commands to drop the knife. Cornitius then charged one of the officers with the knife. The officer, V. Nguyen, discharged his duty weapon more than once and struck Cornitius. Officers provided emergency medical care to Cornitius until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the male to a local hospital in critical condition.
