Vancouver, Clark County, Washington — On Saturday, January 29, 2022 around 2014 hours police responded to Chevron, 9810 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver,
for an armed robbery that just occurred. The caller reported a 23-24YOA white male reportedly produced a handgun,
pointed the firearm at the clerk’s chest and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene in a stolen dark-colored
Mercedes passenger car with several hundred dollars. Twelve minutes later, the armed robbery suspect was
intercepted by police traveling northbound on I-205. The robbery suspect failed to stop for police and the suspect
eluded officer’s apprehension attempts. The robbery suspect eluded officers for several miles and eventually exited I5 toward the City of Battle Ground, Washington where assisting officers successfully deployed spike strips to
immobilize the vehicle. The robbery suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to avoid apprehension.
As assisting officers established containment, a resident in the Battle Ground area called 911 reporting a lone male,
coincidentally matching the description of the robbery suspect, was pounding on their front door asking for assistance
because he had just been involved in a collision. The female caller told emergency dispatch her husband was an armed
off-duty Vancouver Police Officer and had exited their residence onto the driveway in front of their home in an
attempt to detain the suspect for responding officers. The suspect then became aggressive and engaged in a physical
fight with the off-duty officer while the female caller was still on the phone with emergency dispatch.
The off-duty officer lost control of his firearm and suffered several stab wounds during the struggle with the suspect.
The suspect broke free from the struggle and ran toward the officer’s residence which was occupied by the officer’s
wife, who was still on the phone with emergency dispatch.
The off-duty officer was able to recover his firearm that he lost control of during the struggle then ran after the
suspect who was attempting to enter his home while still in possession of the instrument used to stab him. Within
seconds of responding law enforcement officers arriving on scene, one Clark County Deputy Sheriff fired several
rounds from a rifle striking the off-duty officer.
The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he
was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect. The suspect surrendered to police moments later and was
taken into custody without incident. Officers attempted to provide emergency trauma care to the off-duty officer, but
they were unable to stabilize him.
The deceased off-duty Vancouver Police Officer has been identified as 52YOA Donald Sahota.

  2. What happened with the officer that shot him? Didn’t they pay attention to the description? I wish the off duty officer had stayed in the house. I’m sure he had a gun and I doubt the suspect would have forced his way in. A tragedy.

  3. My God how horrific!!!!! All considered, and I'm NOT trying to be funny, it's just to freaky how this all happened, it was his time to go, that's all there is to it! 🙁

HOPEFULLY That state has the law where if someone is killed in the commission of a felony, the bad guy is charged with murder, even though he didn't deliver the fatal stab or gunshot as described in the footage here.

  4. The dispatcher, the wife, the on duty and off duty officers, as well the the 2 officers that let this guy get away after crashing his car, then the suspect is able to just saunter down that road for what 10 minutes despite two aircraft? Show me one person who acted competently here

  5. Perfect failure of an idiot operator to convey a good description of an home owner, who is a police officer, that is/might be attempting to apprehend their suspect….This guy died needlessly…

  6. The wife got her husband killed. She kept narrating to the operator the whole time her husband was fighting for his life and causing more confusion. She did not lock her front door as she saw the suspect charging inside her home. If she simply would’ve locked her door, the suspect would’ve stayed in view outside along with her husband, and the firing officer wouldn’t have been so quick to assume that the lone man outside was the suspect and would’ve hesitated first seeing both men outside.

  7. Ohhh noo! I’ll probably lose a couple minutes sleep tonight because an off duty officer was kia.. I mean he was Kia Sorrento’d or something like that.. lol just kidding I’ll sleep well tonight. Hopefully he was a nwo/Biden guy. Then I would feel really good… i mean
    bad 😉 😜

  8. All around Terrible situation…I know pointless to tell a deceased person that he should’ve kept the suspect at gun point from a distance but that was his gravely mistake. There is a reason why it’s at least a 3 man team to secure a live suspect as protocol in most departments and this is a perfect example of what could go wrong.

  9. So rambo cop gonna unload 4 rounds of .223 knowing his back drop is the front door which most likely the home owners behind that door locking it ?

  10. Unfortunately, Sahota bears much of the blame for getting himself killed. He did MANY things wrong and those things lead to his death. I initially (right after it happened) believed it was due to the on-duty officer being negligent, but after watching this, the on-duty officer was in the right, based on the facts known to him at that moment.

  11. The deceased cop sadly made a major mistake, he had him at gun point on the ground, all he had to do was stand 5 feet away keeping gun on him, but he chose to go hands on with the suspect before allowing other cops to show up, that was a major mistake and cost him his life sadly. It was a poor choice , he knew cops on their way , no reason go hands on, if suspect gets up just shoot him.

  12. I feel bad for the police officer and his family. RIP officer Sahota.

The whole accident was awful. No one want this to happen. But no doubt the deputy saw a person banging on the door with a gun. Not knowing the person was the homeowner and also off-duty police, the deputy shot the ‘suspect’ to protect the people in the house.

I want to state that I am NOT saying the deputy was correct. The deputy really did murder an innocent person. The deputy should be punished.

But there is one thing I want to say. What were the air force doing up there? And the dispatcher also. They should be able to identify the off-duty officer and the suspect and report to the first-line deputies.

    RIP Officer Sahota. 😔

  13. The officer was in the right. If the off-duty officer got in that house with that handgun, he'd kill that kid for stabbing him and invading his castle. He already shot at the kid once. He wasn't going to stop if he got back in the house. We can't have people defending their own property or family anymore. Please just have faith in the police. They're watching over you… with stationary thermal camera towers.

  14. As a responsible gun owner, you are responsible for every round. I expect the same from officers, pilots said that was a officers house. You call the cops for help and they come kill you smh

  15. What an asinine statement from the subject in the back of the police car, reflecting on how it went down he said "both of us were in the wrong" no punk… you are in the wrong, completely in the wrong in too many ways to count. My heart goes out to the officers family and friends, what a heartbreaking tragic situation.

  16. The officer just got out of his car and started shooting at the first person he saw! In the back, facing away, didn't even bother to assess the scene or identify who he's shooting at first. Trigger happy douchebag! And, the dispatcher DID NOT relay to the officers that the husband is a LEO and has a gun. That's some seriously vital information that he needed to say quickly over the radio. But he didn't even bother. Remind me never to move to that town.

  17. Literally the worst response by the arriving LEO. Within seconds he started shooting someone that did not even match the suspect. It’s so incredibly sad to see this happen. But that officer did not do his duties by getting an accurate description of the suspect or judging the situation before opening fire on one of his own officers in his normal clothes.

Cops are taught to shoot first – it’s something that needs to change. This particular officer should be fired immediately.

  18. Arriving cops knew 2 ppl fighting and the rambo cop had a 50/50 chance at shooting the right/wrong guy, well he shot the wrong guy which tells me 100% he had no clue who is who, a cop cannot do this flipping a coin before 100% identify suspect. Cop needs fired asap

  19. interesting case, Segura the armed robber will probalby be charged with resisting arrest, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault. they will try to tack on the murder charge but that wont stick since a cop killed the off duty officer. So segura can get life in prison which means parole in like 15 years. The cop who shot dead the off duty officer, will probably either be kicked out of hte force or be forced to resign. but not charged with murder.

  20. Very sad prayers for the families, but the bottom line is do not open your door to any you do not know and also have a strong door that somebody cannot easily break or kick in.

  21. I mean, as a police officer he should have known the best way is to lock the door and wait for help, from the sirens and choppers above him he should know that its gonna be a really hard time for police to handle the situation if he fights with the suspect, he had a chance to make the situation easier. Sad for the off duty cop.
