“I just got out of jail yesterday, man!”

On May 13, 2021, officers with the Las Cruces Police Department were dispatched to the area of Golf Club and Crescent Creek in reference to an golf cart theft that had just occurred.

Dispatch advised that a male subject with tattoos, blue jeans, a beanie, and no shirt had “hopped into a golf cart at the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course, driven off of the course, and attempted to take the golf cart into the desert.”

While en route, dispatch advised that “some male subjects from the golf course were out with the suspect and that they were going to be in the ravine area south of the Golf Club and Crescent.”

From the police report: “On arrival, I saw golf carts parked on the side of the road, and some subjects down in the ravine area southwest of Crescent and Golf Club.

I made my way down the ravine where I found several subjects speaking to a male subject wearing no shirt, a gray beanie, several body tattoos that I could see, and blue jeans. He was standing next to a golf cart.

I walked over to the male subject and asked him to turn around and place his hands behind his back. I advised him that he was detained at this time. The male subject complied. He placed his hands behind his back. I placed handcuffs on the male, gauged them for tightness and double-locked, and walked him to my marked police unit. I sat him in my unit after performing a pat down for weapons before placing him in my unit.

The suspect was identified as Andrew Herrera. While I was gathering the male’s information, the male was making exciting utterances. Also, while I was walking him to my marked police unit, he made excited utterances stating that somebody at the golf course had let him use it and that he was just driving over there. He also made statements that the brakes were not working and he could not stop the golf cart and he was not trying to steal it.

After sitting him in my unit, Officer Manny Frias obtained the victim’s information, who advised he did want to prosecute.”

Further investigation would reveal that Mr. Herrera had a warrant for battery.

Mr. Herrera was arrested and charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, a fourth degree felony. Trial is scheduled for June 1, 2022.

  1. He was probably let off a hundred times already since he is begging so much. I learned long ago that don't work. Best just not to mess up.

  2. What's a guy who just out of jail do? Oh, right go to a golf course, even though they don't have a set of clubs and "borrow" a golf cart, probably hasn't even played Put Put a day in his miserable life

  3. "I'm going to rehab next week" No you are not! Gosh maybe you should not have rode off on a golf cart???

  4. Someone wanted to go back to being taken care of. Taking care of yourself can be hard. At least he picked a nonviolent way without damage.

  5. the cop says "gray and gold yamaha, gas powered golf cart". but they are red and gray, and electric 😀

  6. So, you commit a felony immediately after being released from jail? He must be very institutionalized and thus can't function outside prison.

  7. "Any damage to it?"
Employee says no, proceeds to drive it backwards over a large plant, nearly running down a police officer. 😆

  8. People who are well known for having walked into the desert; Jesus, Moses, the People of Israel,….. and Andrew Herrera who decided a stolen golf cart was a more prudent idea. First order of the day, lay off visiting tattoo artists for a while and see a dermatologist for those frog warts. "My life is gonna be over, brother, dude, please". Goodbye job interview.

  9. you can tell hes a life long criminal most ppl with face tats arent good ppl im not talking drugs either i give to shits if ppl do drugs im sure hes violent

  10. It’s crazy that “pleeease brother PlEaSe please pleaseeeEeEe” didn’t get him released … … 🙄

  11. Oh, ok. Well since it’s only been 24hrs, you get a free pass for any crimes you happen to accidentally commit. Be on your way.

  12. Can't even act right for 1 day. Dude really? Those carts are cool. I want one. Much better than my handicap scooter. I just read the description. This guy also had a warrant for "battery". Why was he even out?
