Two Bryant police officers are being recognized as heroes after they saved a man from a burning car along Interstate 30 on Tuesday. These officers were not properly equipped or trained to do this kind of rescue, but they were not willing to let this man die.

“It was very scary. It was nerve-racking, to say the least,” said Officer Mark Kling, one of the first officers to respond.

Radio traffic captured a recording of the following statement made by one of the responding officers:

“He will not get out of the car. I cannot get him out. The smoke is too thick.”

When an officer got there, he found the driver, 31-year-old Bilal Al-Amin, awake but in a daze and unresponsive. He was allegedly under the influence of narcotics. Officer Kling first broke through the passenger window with a baton, but thick smoke prevented him from being able to unbuckle the driver and pull him out.

  1. It never said what caused the fire. Least ot took a while for it to get really bad. They hot him out right in time. Some ppl must have never been around smoke like that. It's very hot and impossible to breath and see. Hope thos was a wake up call for this guy.

  2. funny at the beginning when everyone was getting out of the left lane you know its a cop with the lights on because normally no one does lol

  3. . I must confess that the last couple of days I have been watching videos of different Car & Truck fires in Russia. I have never seen so many different people running in with Fire Extinguishers and trying to help the person or persons who car or truck is on fire. I have been raised to help whenever someone is broken down in any way that I can, Whether said Vehicle is on fire or broken down or was in a bad accident But I have noticed that a lot of people in this country just don't care or won't or don't want to get involved. That is one sad & shameful fact. Every single scene that I saw in those videos of Russian Vehicles on fire. Everyone had Fire Extinguishers in their cars. Most of the time they were successful in helping put out said fire. In this country, if you are in the Medical Field you must stop and render assistance. I think there should be a law stating if you come upon a Vehicle you should have to stop and render assistance to the best of your abilities whether it is a fire or not. And everyone should carry a Fire Extinguisher. I want to thank & salute every single man or woman who has ever stopped and maybe made a difference by rendering assistance to someone with car or truck trouble. I SALUTE YOU!

  5. Trained or not that took a lot longer than it should have. Why don't they train these guys on how to break auto glass.Baton strikes don't work but a spring loaded center punch will break it with just a press.
