On Tuesday, 2 February, a Volvo estate was stopped by traffic patrols on Cherryfield Lane, Kirkby. The car initially stopped for patrols before the driver and front seat passenger jumped out of the car and threw bricks at the windscreen of the police vehicle, causing damage to the windscreen and showering the officer in glass. The Volvo made off at speed and was pursued around the Kirkby area before being lost on the M57.

Following extensive enquiries, the offenders were identified as 33-year-old Carl Foley and 22-year-old Karl Waring, both of no fixed abode. Both were arrested and charged with various offences and remanded in custody for trial.

Following guilty pleas, the men received the following sentences:
Karl Waring: sentenced to 5 years 6 months imprisonment for Affray and separate offences of Possession with intent to supply cannabis
Carl Foley: sentenced to 2 years 9 months imprisonment for Affray, Dangerous Driving and Disqualified Driving

Inspector Mike McFall of Matrix Serious and Organised Crime, Roads Policing Unit said: “We welcome these sentences, which should serve as a warning to anyone else considering taking such reckless action against police. These two dangerous offenders believed in using violence to aid their escape from police, and in doing so showed complete disregard for the safety of police and towards other road users.

“Unfortunately for Waring and Foley, they only succeeded in raising their profile as a risk to the public, which resulted in a joint investigation by Sefton CID and Matrix Serious and Organised Crime unit and, ultimately, substantial terms of imprisonment.”

  1. They got out of the car and showed their faces and the police has their liscence plate so they’re really dumb

  2. nice once, next time throw some more maybe from side windows too to give their car a new look

  3. What a pair of ****s!! As Nelson Muntz from the simpsons would say Ha Ha! For being such twats they then got sentenced to imprisonment.

  4. It's always the call whether to endanger traffic safety just to catch some for initially, vandalism of the police car, but they also drove with shards and tears in the glass resulting in less visibility, which means the cops endangered public safety just to catch these guys, not yet knowing what they were hiding afaik. Bad common sense applied by police, they are always thought: essence of arrest VS public safety in a pursuit.
