Her ghetto-like attitude at the end shows that she is nowhere near ready for the civilized world, nor truly sorry for what she did. A sorry person would've thanked the judge, and said "8-20 is too merciful". Had she been a man, she would've gotten life. The good thing is that her daughter is being raised by, hopefully, someone better.
