Los Angeles, California — On February 21, 2020, around 1:29 a.m., Southeast Patrol officers, on loan to 77th Division, responded to a radio call of unknown trouble. The female caller was requesting police at 78th Street and South Hoover Street. Upon their arrival, the officers encountered a female seated between two parked vehicles and attempted to ascertain if she was the source of the radio call. The female, later identified as Dorothy Kolen, was not fully engaging the officers in conversation, so the officers requested further information from Communications Division. As the officers were speaking to Kolen, one officer attempted to assist her to a standing position. When the officer held Kolen’s arm, she pulled away and produced a kitchen knife with an approximate eight-inch blade. As the officers were backing away from Kolen, she walked towards them, armed with the knife, and an Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) occurred.

Kolen was struck by gunfire and transported by Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics to Harbor UCLA Hospital, where she underwent surgery for her injuries. Kolen was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and absentee booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) on a police officer. No officers were injured during the incident and a knife was recovered at scene. The officer involved in this OIS has been identified as Police Officer II Cecilia Molina, Serial No. 43054, assigned to Southeast Division. LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division also responded and monitored the investigation.

  1. Why didn't the woman just say something like, " I got into an argument with my friend and I am just out here chillin out. I will be going back in a little while."

  2. Now THIS looks like a suicide-by-cop! As opposed to some fuck-head just provoking police from gross stupidity.

  3. It always makes me wonder how it would have turned out if the police just let her alone, drove away, parked up and watched from safe a distance for a while. It would be very likely that no one would have been shot or stabbed. This was clearly suicide.

  4. So WHY is it a help call putting other cops' lives in danger hauling ass to get there when the suspect is down?! Ridiculous.

  5. In the background you can see the tow truck waiting and lurking around. They obviously were listening to the police radio and heard commotion at that location and thought they might get some business.

  6. Thought they were speaking with a dude. MAN! Stop playin gender games! Gettin hard to tell the deference now!!

  7. Damn she fired in seconds. Not blaming her, but women should not be cops. Men are able to withstand more danger and scarier situations without blowing the perp away. They should have backed up at least for a minute or so before shooting (as plenty of cops in other videos on this channel do)

  8. i feel like no one in that department had any idea how to handle the aftermath of this shooting. they all just stood there letting her bleed

  9. I just watched a lot of these police videos in a row and every time there was a female officer with weapon drawn I’ve noticed that they fire a lot quicker with much more fear. Sometimes they fire before they actually mean to fire. All the male cops held for much longer under the intense situations…weird.

  10. Suicide by cop call. She wasn't expecting two nice friendly women who she could identify with but wanted two white male minority-killers. When she didn't get that she felt bad for her plan of putting someone else through the trauma of having to shoot her because she's to much of a coward to commit suicide herself.. That's my best guess

  11. "Were here to help you . . . . . . ". By grabbing and kidnapping you ! ? ! WTF
P.S. If you don't let us kidnap you . . . . we'll kill you. This is what you wanted.
Notice cop called her "VICTIM" NOT "SUSPECT. I agree

  12. Everytime I'm bored I've always get back to this video.. the response time of other officers is amazing! Hope my country's police force were like this but no.. too far from this!

  13. Everyone is confused because the lady officer only put out officer needs help. She never said shot's fired! So ever police officer walked in the line of fire!
