NYPD — The New York Police Department 26th Precinct Released Body Camera and CCTV Footage, 911 calls and picture from a Police-Involved Firearm Discharge that Occurred on May 20, 2020.
The Daily News wrote: “An NYPD sergeant pleaded with a knife-wielding killer to show his hands for more than a minute before shooting the suspect dead inside a Harlem apartment this May, dramatic bodycam footage released Thursday shows.
In the Harlem case, Sgt. Kurwin Klien shot and killed Ubaldo Gomez, 44, on May 20 after Gomez fatally shot his sister-in-law in a fifth-floor apartment on St. Nicholas Terrace at W. 127th St.
Gomez, an NYPD auxiliary cop, grabbed a kitchen knife and started stabbing another man in the apartment after his wife got his gun away from him.
When Klien and another officer approached the apartment, Gomez was still inside, wrestling with the man.
“Careful, careful, careful. Cameras on. Cameras on,†Klien said as he stood at the apartment door, looking in. “Yo, hands! Show me your hands, man!â€
He repeated that command several times, telling Gomez, “Just show me your hands so I can come inside and give you some help!â€
When he entered the apartment, he saw Gomez and the bloodied man struggling, and again yelled, “Show me your hands! Hands, hands!â€
Gomez raised the knife, appearing to get ready to plunge it, and Klien shot him twice, killing him.

I'd think Spanish would be practically a dispatcher hiring requirement in NYC but then I wondered how many languages you'd need to handle all of the daily volume. Still, it seems like monolingual dispatchers would be an endangered species.

I'm not sure why it takes the police department months to determine whether a shooting is Justified or not anyone with half a brain could watch this 11-minute video and come to the conclusion that it was justified
Sgt. Klein saved a life and did a hard job perfectly as far as I'm concerned.
If a police officer who has body worn camera footage that reveales a blatantly justified shooting has to go through months and months of investigations with a myriad of interviews; imagine what the common joe with a ccw has to go through.

I will say my only issue is the first officer getting to the door and not even taking a quick peak in and having no clue what was going on. It took the second officer coming up to identify the situation and that's a bit frustrating but it is what it is! Good work by them after that
