The Chandler Police Department in Chandler, Arizona released Body Camera, pictures and details in a Critical Incident Briefing about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on January 2, 2021, at approximately 9:20 pm, in the area of Nevada Street and Erie Street, in the City of Chandler.
The officer at about 9:20 p.m. had been driving a fully marked patrol vehicle in the area when an officer observed, later identified as Anthony Cano 17 years-old riding a bicycle with no front headlight in the street. The officer tried to stop Cano for the traffic violation, but Cano refused to stop and fled from the officer on the bicycle, he then abandoned the bicycle and ran from the officer through the park.
While Cano ran away, he felt and Cano’s gun felt to the ground, to the ground, he then stops to pick up the gun and this is when the officer involved shooting occurred, the officer fired 2 shots at Cano.
Officers remain with Cano providing medical aid until paramedic arrived.
Cano was transport to the local hospital where he remain in critical condition.
On JANUARY 6, 2021 Cano aunt, Eva Cano, who is the Organizer of a gofundme wrote: “Thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers Anthony has made some amazing progress!”
“Some of you may have heard about my nephew. Anthony”Peanut” Cano, 17yr old, was shot by the police, twice in his back on Jan 2nd. He is injured pretty severely, and remains in ICU, on a ventilator. Being the determined, strong, healthy kid he is, he has made baby steps forward, and we pray he continues this progress. He had one surgery and has several more planned. We are expecting a lengthy hospital stay and whatever recovery God has planned for him. Your prayers & support are greatly appreciated.”

The first shot…ok, even though it looked like the kid picked up the gun, then decided to toss it to the right. But by that point I think the cops adreniline had his brain already programmed to pull that trigger. It all happened too fast. If the cop was a mind reader he could of known the kid changed his mind and threw the gun! That 2nd one tho…he even paused before he shot!
They should all end with a double tap
I'm a Military Police Veteran. I see things through the eyes of the LEO's, HOWEVER, that first shot was HIGHLY questionable. It looked like he was holding it by the magazine with two fingers. He didn't turn towards the LEO nor point that weapon in the LEO'S direction. Why shoot? That Second shot was attempted murder. He had no Right to shoot him the second time. He paused, took aim and shot a defenseless young man in the back. Fuck you if you don't agree with me.

That double tap is gonna be a big problem. Suspect is already on his stomach on the ground, officer walks 3 steps closer, puts another round in his spine from close range. That's gonna be a BIG problem.

That second shot was execution, he was down but officer wanted to kill him… man had its back to officer, he wasn't an immediate threat.
Deploying teaser gun would have dont it… police needs better ways to deal with people, like sand bags, pepper spray and teaser, shooting as a last resort, but every officer is obsessed to kill a man for his own selfish honor.

Dam he threw the gun at the exact instant the officer pulled the trigger. Had the officer hesitated he might of not had to shoot the suspect but had he hesitated things could of gone much different and maybe lost his life.

I've seen this a number of times where criminals drop their guns in a chase and stop to pick it back up.. why? If they don't intend to fire or want to be shot it's the dumbest thing you can do or you have a death wish.
